A Grand Adventure in Recife's Forte Do Brum

Forte do Brum or otherwise known as Fort de Bruyne is a remnant of the remnants of Dutch colonial years still standing on the northern end of Recife, Brazil. Built on the year 1629 by the Portuguese colonizers, it was later to be subjected to the Dutch who have overtaken the merged kingdoms of Spain and Portugal. As the Dutch took charge of the affairs of Pernambuco, the Forte do Brum was rebuilt in honor of Johan de Bruyne who presided over the political council of Olinda and named it Forte de Bruyne. The return of the Portuguese in Recife had their name replaced to Forte de Sao Joao Batista do Brum. If one visits the Fort, maybe you would also like to check the Museo Militar, which is in the location.

In the year 1626, the Forte do Brum ascended from the ruins of a trench during Pernambuco's Portuguese colonization. Under the workmanship of Diego Paes, the work was completed. In the year 1630, the coming of the Dutch concluded the building of the structure under the engineers Van Bueren, Commersteyn, and Andrea Crewich. The year 1654 saw the Dutch leaving the place, after which the place's reconstruction began led by the Portuguese. Colonial influences in the architectural design are well remarked by visitors. Just a distance away from center of Recife, the Forte do Brum is a place where one could understand why this part of Brazil is one of the diverse areas in South America.

The Fort of the Brum is also known for housing a military museum that boasts of its remarkable collection pf weapons, ammunition, and fardamentos dating the time of the Dutch invasion. The Museo Militar provides one an overview of the significant changes that have happened in the last three centuries. The Fort of the Brum in the year 1985 was partially excavated by the Laboratory of Archaeology of the Center of Philosophy and Human Sciences of the Federal University of Pernambuco. This was project supported nonetheless by the northeast Military Command of the 7a Military Region. It also received support from the Joaquin Nabuco Foundation.

The research uncovered many remainders of the forte's first construction, which became the biggest argument surrounding the historicity of the Fort of the Brum. The place today has gone a long way from its original purpose. It serves a military museum where a display of military power down through the ages is eminent. Cannons, weapons, photos, and many more reminders of that colonial past. This was restored to honor of the northeastern soldier.
