A clear guide to Recife neighborhoods

If you are heading to Recife, Brazil for your summer holiday you will benefit from a guide to Recife neighborhoods. With the right travel directions Recife will prove to be an easy to navigate place where every neighborhood has something new to offer. The city of Recife is situated only two meters above sea level and knows many islands. With many rivers and canals this is a great place for water sports.

Recife is also called the Brazilian Venice due to all the waterways running through the city. This makes boating a great way to transport yourself from one place to another but without a clear guide to Recife neighborhoods you might get lost. The city of Recife is generally divided into major parts. There is the downtown Recife centre called Centro (downtown), the Zona Sul (southern zone), the Zona Oeste (western zone), and Zona Norte (northern zone).

The old centre of Recife can be reached by Recife suburban trains and the best places to see and explore are Santo Antônio, São José, as well as Santo Amaro and Boa Vista. These places feel like small villages when you enter them and all have their own unique character. They are all scattered over the area divided by islands and bridges. The Capibaribe river bridges connect these parts of Recife and of course they are all clearly marked on any guide to Recife neighborhoods.

The Zona Zul is a very modern area. Visited by many tourists this place is geared towards every need a tourist could have. The Recife subway is always nearby. This part was built around natural reef beaches and all good hotels and bars can be found here. Even though this Recife centre has many great restaurants to offer you should try local beach food prepared in front of you. The Recife airport and a large shopping centre can be found here too.

The Zona Oeste is the green belt of the Recife area. The guide to Recife neighborhoods shows this area only partially simply because it’s so big. This place is what’s left of a huge Atlantic rainforest in Brazil.

The Zona Norte is the Recife residential area. Easily reached with the Recife bus or metro you can see how the locals live in this great area. You will find supermarkets and shops with fresh produce here along with the small squares and residential gardens. But a guide to Recife neighborhoods would not be good if you are not made aware of some parts that are considered to be Recife’s unsafe neighborhoods. Just make sure to not wander around at night on your own and keep your belongings close to you especially in tourist areas.

Travelling by bus or metro is the best option if you want to get from one place to another quickly. Recife’s public transport is reliable. There are different bus companies and they all have booths at the Central MetroRec bus station in town. You can buy tickets there and ask for a small bus map and directions.

The Recife metro network is reliable and has been around for a very long time. With a guide to Recife neighborhoods and a metro map you will be able to find your way around Recife without any trouble. The metro network is very compact and clear. The southern metro line runs for 14 km and will run all the way to the Recife airport. Trains are air conditioned and run smoothly.
